BUILT-TO-SPEC: FROM CONCEPT TO SERIES PRODUCTION
PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT
In case of Build-to-Spec, we take full responsibility for the complete development of a new system in close collaboration with the customer (co-creation). Of course in this case, we expect also the future series production at MTA.
THE POWER OF V²2
THE CONNECTION BETWEEN PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT AND PRODUCTION
At MTA, we believe in the added value of connecting product development and production. From this philosophy, we developed the unique V² model, where collaboration between product development and production is key.
The goal is not only to ensure that the product meets the technical specifications, but also that it can be produced later in series with the best price-performance ratio.
SUCCESSFUL BUSINESS CASE
The Impact of Design Choices
It is essential to consider manufacturability, production costs, and everything else involved in series production from the very beginning of the product design phase.
The impact of design choices on the entire production process is continuously tested, evaluated, and aligned with all stakeholders. A significant share of the production costs, and thus the ultimate success of the business case, is mostly decided by the choices made in this phase.
ALL EXPERTISE UNDER ONE ROOF
MULTIDISCIPLINARY PROJECT TEAM
At the start of the project, we form a multidisciplinary project team. We have all the strategic key competencies for product development, industrialization, and series production in-house.
In addition, we have a strong network of knowledge and technology partners for specific expertise. MTA takes control of the entire process and ensures the system coherence.
AVOID UNNECESSARY SAFETY MARGINS
The Art of Simplicity
Simplicity is a primary goal in product design. An overload of unnecessary functionalities or safety margins will incur additional costs and time during later series production. Therefore, we aim to limit this as much as possible.
UNIT PHILOSOPHY
Modular Design
Modular design is another key principle of our approach. This means that we divide the complexity of the system into manageable modules and units. At MTA, we call this the unit philosophy.
Some key advantages of this approach are: parallel assembly and integration, shorter lead times, early diagnostics throughout the supply chain and the ability to test individual units and modules, allowing us to identify and resolve issues at an early stage.
THE NEXT STEP
Ready for Series Production
According to the V² philosophy, we aim for the design to be approximately 80% ready for series production after the prototype is completed. In the subsequent iterations, there will be no further changes to the chosen concepts and system architecture.
CONNECTION BETWEEN PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT AND PRODUCTION
We work according to our unique V² model in which product and production design are synchronised and continuously aligned during the development process.
